Barbara always knew she wanted to be a therapist and an artist. As a teenager, she experienced the healing power of art while struggling to deal with her father’s illness. It was then that Barbara decided she wanted a career that involved both psychotherapy and the arts.
After a year at a liberal arts college, Barbara transferred to the Rhode Island School of Design where she received a BFA with honors in Sculpture. She went on to receive both a Master of Fine Arts and a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. Barbara continued her education by studying addictions and contemporary psychoanalysis and received a Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from The Institute of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of New Jersey.
Barbara began her social work career providing addiction treatment, quickly becoming a supervisor and program director. As Executive Director of a small residential treatment facility for women, Barbara helped integrate treatment for mental health disorders such as mood disorders, anxiety and PTSD into a traditional 12-step based addiction treatment program. Barbara has always thought about her work in an integrated way, considering the whole person.
Born and raised in New England, Barbara happily returned to the Northeast and settled in Camden with her family.
