Deciding to get help is a difficult thing to do. You might feel you don't have it that bad, you know others who have it worse, maybe it isn't for you. You might say to yourself, "Shouldn't I be able to handle this on my own?" I'll just work harder, or exercise more, or party harder. We don't like feeling vulnerable and out of control. Maybe some of what you are feeling are not things to avoid or "gut out" ~ maybe it is a part of yourself that you need to listen to, to pay attention to - maybe a wiser part of yourself that you don't quite know how to acknowledge.
Therapy isn't for everyone. Every therapist isn't for everyone. Most of how we think and feel was forged in a relationship ~ and I also believe growth, change and healing happens in them, too. A therapeutic relationship is different. It's something we form together. Yes, it can be exciting and scary. And yes - things can get worse before they get better. Not always. Sometimes.
